SIVERSKY AGE (LATE PLIOCENE) VEGETATION OF THE PLATFORM UKRAINE
Olena Sirenko
Institute of Geological Sciences, NAS of Ukraine
O. Gontchara str. 55b, 01601, Kiev, Ukraine
The vegetation cover of the Siversky age of the Late Pliocene is reconstructed in de-tails for the platform part of Ukraine using the results of thorough palynological investigation in six sections located in the margins of recent steppe and forest-steppe zones. For the first time the vegetation of the period where the soils sequence occurring in the middle part of the Siversky sediments’ section formed has been reconstructed. The author has recognized the distinguishing features of plant groups in the periods of clay formation and soil formation during the Siversky age as well as general and regional features of vegetation cover transfor-mation in the formation time of individual soils of the Siversky age. The distinctions of the vegetation cover within different relief elements have been traced.
Key words: vegetation cover, Late Pliocene, Ukraine.
