The Chair is responsible for maintenance of a profound knowledge of students of geological faculty on fundamental questions of physics of the Earth and the universe, physical bases of theoretical and applied geophysical receptions of research of an earth's crust and deep processes in structural environments of the Earth.

       The Chair of Physics of the Earth is the youngest department of geological faculty (created under the order of the Rector № 305 from March, 7, 2000). From the beginning of establishment on faculty the following teachers work:

    Teachers of chair take part in preparation of bachelors, experts and masters on all specialities of geological faculty. By preparation of the future experts the greatest attention is given application of geoinformation technologies and modelling of physical processes in research of physical fields of the Earth for the decision of complex geological, engineering - geological and ecological problems{tasks}.

Component of chair is the intercathedral laboratory of geoinformation technologies and computer modelling in geology. In laboratory employment{occupations} on computer science, bases of work with a computer for all students of geological faculty, to higher mathematics, geostatistics and the system analysis, computer methods of processing of the geological, geochemical and ecological information and many to other subjects are carried out{spent}, performed course, degree, postgraduate works and practices for all specialities of geology faculty (very interesting and good rezults are together with Chair of Ecology).

II. Modelling structure geoinformation databases in the geophysical analysis of geological objects and formation of graphic databases.

This work provides development of methods of computer modelling of dynamic characteristics of structural environments of the Earth, development of theoretical and technological bases of effective algorithms of the decision of three-dimensional direct and return problems{tasks} for modelling geological and geophysical процесів. III. Development of methods of the analysis and forecasting of geophysical fields in research geoecological systems.

It is planned to develop new methods of the analysis and interpretation of geophysical fields with use of the modern information and computer technologies directed on conducting of monitoring, theoretical modelling and forecasting of the dangerous phenomena in geoecological systems. (2003-2004, heads Vovchenko R.G., Khomiak M.M.).
   

The Chair of the Earth provides functioning the equipment of Interfaculty laboratory of information network technologies and conducts support of technical resources of the Internet for geological, biological faculties and libraries.

In November 2003 laboratory of physical methods of researches in geology for service of electronic scanning microscope JEOL-220 and a complex of geophysical devices for maintenance of necessary measurements of characteristics of physical fields of the Earth are created.
